Air Lift 3P vs 3H

Which is better 3P system or 3H system

The Air Lift 3P system VS Air Lift 3H

The age old debate of pressure vs. height based presets within the air suspension management world. The Air Lift 3P system and the Air Lift 3H system each offer distinct advantages for those looking to upgrade their vehicle's air management. While the 3P system is a pressure-based solution, the 3H system takes a hight tech approach using four external height sensors.

Why would I choose the 3P?

The 3P system for bagged cars is well-suited for the cost-conscious consumer, providing a more affordable option that still includes presets. At $1,595.00 the 3P has it’s clear pros and cons. It’s biggest shortcoming is common among all pressure-based systems, regardless of how much great feedback you find online. A pressure-based system never actually knows the height of your vehicle, or the relative position of your control arms. The information it relies on are the four pressure readings.

Does which car I drive impact which of these options will work for me?

Two characteristics stand out when it comes to your vehicle, are geometry and bag style. First, if the suspension kit you plan on using relies on a sleeve bag in either location, front or rear, it will suffer from exaggerated inaccuracy with a 3P. We produced a whole video explaining why sleeve type air springs don’t get along with the 3P here:

The second characteristic to look out for relates to high ride pressure (front or rear). BMWs that commonly use a separate spring and shock in the rear require a rear pressure in excess of 100 PSI, as do Mustangs and numerous other applications. Air spring (and coil spring) leverage is largely determined by where along the control arm the spring is positioned, the further inboard, the more force the spring will need to exert. The result is a higher rear spring pressure on these cars. When your daily pressure is closer to the limit of the system, you will have a greater variance in ride-hight unless you add height sensors.

Why we Choose 3H

Ultimately, the decision between the 3P and 3H systems will depend on your specific needs and budget. While each management offers a reliable and effective air suspension solution, the 3H system is our preferred choice. When putting all of these hours into building your dream car, we firmly believe that taking the extra couple of hours to have height sensors is the sensible choice. Don't burn up your fresh paint, or your new wrap because you don't know your true ride-height.
