If your car is equipped with an Air Ride kit, it’s safe to say that you want to do everything in your power to keep your system air tight. Here we will name the primary reasons that you might experience an air leak in your setup so that you can hopefully avoid running into these issues during your air suspension journey.
NPT fittings installed or prepped poorly
When installing your air suspension system, you are going to want to make sure that your NPT fittings are all properly installed in order to keep your system leak free. If you over tighten or under tighten your fittings, you are going to have a high likelihood of running into issues with leaks. Make sure that your fittings are tightened just enough and you should be okay. Another thing to keep in mind is to always apply thread tape or sealant on your fittings to maintain a proper seal.
Poorly cut air lines
When connecting air line, it is important that the cut on the end going into the fitting is clean and uniform. If you make a cut and it’s jagged or uneven, you run a higher risk of leaking since the seal around that uneven cut isn't as strong as on a clean cut. To prevent this from happening you should use an air line cutter or razor blade on a flat surface to ensure your cuts are as uniform as possible.
PTC “Bites”
Overtime and after repeatedly removing or reinserting your air line into a fitting, it is common for PTC bite to occur. This is basically a line of little gouges that appear on the spot where the grasp ring was holding onto the air line. If you see this on one of your lines, you should cut that section of the line off with an air line cutter and reinsert it into the fitting to avoid leaks overtime.
