How to Thread Tape a Fitting the Correct Way

To keep your air ride system air tight, it is important that you apply thread tape to your fittings properly. Here we will explain exactly how to do that so that you don’t find yourself running into leaking fittings on your set up!

Applying the thread tape

Pick up the fitting that you will be thread taping and hold it in an orientation similar to if you were threading it into a port. Then position your tape on the underside of the threads on the fitting, and as you roll the tape around the threads maintain control over how tight the tape is being applied so that it doesn’t bunch up. Two and a half turns of the fitting while applying the thread tape is enough to create an effective seal, so keep that in mind during this process. Once you are finished with the process you are ready to thread your fitting into a port!

General tips and tricks

Overall the process of applying thread tape is an easy one. Just make sure you use enough to properly seal your fitting into the port but don’t feel the need to overapply. One thing to look out for after applying the thread tape to your fitting is which direction the tail is facing after you cut the tape to finish wrapping the threads. If it is “against” the threads then it will likely bunch up or unravel after you start threading your fitting. So make sure that you wrap the tape in the direction you will be threading your fitting.
